about

This has been a LONG time coming. This unplugged version of "Jackson" is a raw arrangement Harriet Langley and I played live in London, Sydney and Melbourne throughout 2019. We loved playing it like this and wanted to capture it in this acoustic setting. We got together with our mates Ingmar Kamalagharan and Thomas Vella from South Sessions in May 2019 to jam this tune out in a friends vintage, plant filled living room in South London. It was lovely.

"Jackson" was written on my 3rd Christmas away from home in London, two weeks after my 3rd nephew was born. This song exposes a longing to be with family and how heartbreaking it can be to miss special events like new babies and Christmas pudding with family.

This song feels extra emotional this Christmas as I know so many people won't be spending Christmas in the way they would like to, global pandemic challenges and all. I want to send out love and courage to anyone who needs it this Christmas. ❤️

If you are on my mailing list, you'll receive a free download of this song before xmas (you can sign up at www.fetherstone.com). If you want to donate something towards the making of this video and track, you can do that here. All money received will go into the album I am working on right now, which I will be sharing in 2021. So excited about that.

Merry Xmas friends, stay positive if you can and do things that feel nurturing and healing.

LYRICS
Oh Jackson he came
It’s hard to believe you made him
Oh Jackson he’s named
He looks at the world through fresh eyes

How I long to get back home
It seems like I'm missing out on it all
Oh Jackson he’s just two weeks old
I promise I’ll be there soon.

My eyes have always followed my heart,
But now I’m not sure that I trust where they’re taking me

Cause the house is too quiet, and there’s too much pudding left
I miss fighting for that seat and laughing till my stomach’s weak
And I don’t know how to be alone on Christmas
No I don’t know how to be alone on Christmas

We’re talking of moving home
The sun and the seas are calling him
But something just won’t let go
It turns out I quite like the grey

In June it will be three years
And one day I’ll want a family too
Oh Jackson I have my fears
That maybe it’s just too soon

My eyes have always followed my heart
But now I’m not sure that I trust where they’re taking me

Cause the house is too quiet, and there’s too much pudding left
I miss fighting for that seat and laughing till my stomach’s weak
And I don’t know how to be alone on Christmas
No I don’t know how to be alone on Christmas

Cause the house is too quiet, and there’s too much pudding left
I miss fighting for that seat and laughing till my stomach’s weak
And I don’t know how to be alone on Christmas
No I don’t know how to be alone on Christmas
No I don’t know how to be alone on Christmas
