Following her break-out single ‘Don’t Look Back’ released in November 2016, Fetherstone, in collaboration with London-based Kobalt Music-signed producer Harry Tarlton, presents ‘Setting My Soul Free’, the first instalment of her self-titled 4-track EP. Under the guise of Fetherstone, her new electronic-pop-folk infused persona, Australian songstress Briana Cowlishaw brings the tradition of the troubadour storyteller into the modern electronic pop genre through her innate passion for storytelling, with this new release reflecting on the vulnerability of falling in love, and accepting oneself enough to be able to be loved in return.
Cowlishaw explains her raw and open approach to her songwriting as ‘…the only way I can write music. When I accept my vulnerability and allow myself to be completely honest with my lyrics, I can stop trying to create and the creation just happens on it’s own. It’s not always easy, though, to stand strong and look at your weakness face on.’
The winds never stop blowing,
The seas never stop moving,
I’ve jumped aboard many times before and the
Roaring seas they swept me right away.
I tried to lay still in bed before,
I’ve tossed from side to side in endless thought,
I’ve made my plans to run away once again from,
All the things i’ll never understand.
But now I awake with your arms around my skin and you're holding me.
You make my soul run free,
You stop me from sinking deep,
You make me all I can be,
Your soul was made for me.
The trees never stop growing,
The skies never stop changing.
The world somehow seems so calm about it all,
I need to know where the story ends.
I close my eyes and let my thoughts go,
Why I am here and how am I to know!
I’ve landed in the setting of my dreams,
Yet some days I really wouldn’t know.
But now I awake with your arms around my skin and you're holding me.
You make my soul run free,
You stop me from sinking deep,
You make me all I can be,
Your soul was made for me.
You say you understand me,
But I don't even understand myself.
You say just take it easy,
I always feel the need to push myself.
And through the years you watch me,
I always seem to trip over my feet.
You say you'll always love me,
Do I deserve to be so lucky.
You make my soul run free,
You stop me from sinking deep,
You make me all I can be,
Your soul was made for me.
You make my soul run free,
You stop me from sinking deep,
You make me all I can be,
Your soul was made for me.
